June Wrap Up

08:00

It's that time again! Time for another wrap up and this time it's going to be laid out differently as i'm trying new changes with all of my posts...which I hope is okay.

June came and went quickly didn't it? We are now in the height of summer and the UK is currently experiencing a major heatwave and I am melting currently!

I had an okay reading month for June, although I did hit a slump towards the middle of the month. I did manage to read six books mind you. Which is pretty good going for me.

How did your June pan out? Link me to all your wrap ups etc!

Books I Read in June

- A Thousand Perfect Notes was a PHENOMENAL debut YA novel that had me in tears throughout the story. It is a very harrowing, raw, emotional read and it does feature the topic of abuse, so trigger warnings are in place. It was powerful and beautifully written and I am still thinking about it almost a month on.

- The Weight of a Thousand Feathers was another read that had me reaching for the tissues. This book also dealt with triggering themes such as illness and euthanasia but both were dealt with beautifully. I found myself researching into the illness mentioned and I just loved how delicately everything was dealt with. The only little gripe I had was that I couldn't connect with a few characters.

- Being one of the most anticipated YA reads of the year, I was extremely excited to read Floored and I wasn't disappointed...I LOVED it! The concept behind it was outstanding. The writing flowed well from chapter to chapter and everything stitched together so perfectly. It's unique form of storytelling will have you captivated and wanting more.

- The Belles was a book that I'd been desperate to read for a while and when I saw it in my local library I snapped it up! The concept behind it fascinated me and it really did bring to light what is seen as 'beautiful' and what isn't. The plot was perfectly executed and I really didn't want to put it down. The world building was stunning and I have definitely found a new series to obsess over.

- It'd been a while since I'd indulged in some chick lit so I thought 'why not read The Cosy Seaside Chocolate Shop'. This was a really easy, summery read - perfect for the recent weather we have been having. Also...it's about a chocolate shop! What isn't there to like? It made me feel all warm and happy inside and reminded me of why I love chick lit so much. The perfect escape.

- It Only Happens in the Movies was a YA book club read and to be honest if it wasn't I probably would have DNF. I wanted to like it so badly as I'd heard good things but..I just couldn't get into it. I found it to be so cliche and cheesy and I felt like I couldn't connect with any of the characters. The only thing I did like about it was some of the romantic film references, but apart from that I was very disappointed.

July Reading Goals

I don't really have any goals for July. I do want to get through my Netgalley list though and maybe try and book from a genre I don't usually read in. I am also going to my first ever YALC at the end of July so I have a feeling my TBR pile will be getting larger.
