Floored Blog Tour: 'You all right, Mum?'

08:18

Today I am really excited to be taking part in the blog tour for Floored: A collaborative novel by seven of the top YA authors in UK - Sara Barnard, Holly Bourne, Tanya Byrne, Non Pratt, Melinda Salisbury, Lisa Williamson & Eleanor Wood. I received a proof copy of this book and ADORED it! Do go and check out my full review if you wish.

As Floored is a collaborative novel the blog tour is also based on collaboration with seven bloggers all working on a collaborative project. Please do go and check out the other amazing bloggers in my group:

For my post I am going to be talking about Joe - the swot and the character that I adored. Who's your favourite character? Let me know in the comments!

"You all right, Mum?'

Aww Joe! He was definitely one of my favourite characters and I just found him to be such a sweetheart. I found his chapters to be endearing, insightful and just heartwarming.

When we are introduced to Joe in his opening chapter we find out that his parents are a lot older than his friend's parents, his mum is suffering from memory loss, he's seen as the brainy one and that his dream is to work in TV. I think this resonated with me, as although I haven't experienced some of these, I know a few people that do have older parents and I have seen enough to know the dreadful impact memory loss can have on a person.

What I also liked about Joe was his loyalty to his family. He tries to sacrifice something he really wants to do just to stay with his mum and look after her - that mother son bond is something not often seen in YA and it was rather emotional to read. When his mum told him to go chase his dreams, I nearly fell apart.

The bond that Joe has with the other five is pretty unbreakable. I especially loved his relationship with Velvet (I ship it!) and how around them could just be Joe. Not the uber swot, dutiful son or disappointing best friend. Just Joe. They loved him for him and that was so exhilarating to read.

Joe Lindsay was a joy to read and his character needs to be seen more in YA. He was the one character that I fell in love with when reading Floored and when I do my reread I'm sure I will fall in love with him all over again.

In honour of Joe, I have also created a little playlist dedicated to him, which I'm sure he would love!
