Book Beginnings/Friday 56 #2

Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City ReaderShe invites you to share the first sentence or so of your current read and share your thoughts about the sentence, initial impressions of the book and anything else it inspires.

Friday 56 is hosted by Fredas VoiceThis is where you grab the book you are reading, turn to page 56 (or 56% on your ereader) and post a few sentences.

I am currently reading an eARC of The Smoke Thieves by Sally Green.

"Everything ready?"
"No. This is a figment of your imagination and I've been sitting on my arse all day eating honey." Tash was adjusting the rope so it's knotted end was a hand's breadth above the bottom of the pit.

I love how the stories opens straight away with dialogue. I don't see that much in books that I read so it was  quite intriguing. I'm also interested in what's in the pit. Is it dangerous? Is it scary? Is Tash going to get hurt? All these questions go through my mind. A great opening!

Edyon cleaned the wound but he had to do something more. He was sure the smoke had somehow helped him heal after his beating by Stone's men. His bruises were gone and the tooth that had come close to falling out was now solid as a rock.

I am not that far into this book but I can tell you I am already hooked. It is perfect YA Fantasy and I want to know more about this fictional world. I have never read any of Sally Green's other work before but just by the bit of The Smoke Thieves I have read I will certainly be picking up her other novels.

  5. This book sounds SO interesting! That first sentence was awesome (I don't really see a lot of books that open with dialogue either) and i'm definitely adding it to my TBR!

  6. Healing smoke? Fascinating. I'm curious if the smoke can do other things as well or if it can be controlled somehow. Happy reading!
