Book Beginnings/Friday 56 #8

Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City ReaderShe invites you to share the first sentence or so of your current read and share your thoughts about the sentence, initial impressions of the book and anything else it inspires.

Friday 56 is hosted by Fredas VoiceThis is where you grab the book you are reading, turn to page 56 (or 56% on your ereader) and post a few sentences.

I am currently reading The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

We all turned sixteen today, and for any normal girl that would mean raspberry and lemon macarons and tiny pastel blimps and pink champagne and card games. Maybe even a teacup elephant. But not for us. Today is our debut. There are only six of us this year.

I enjoyed this opening as it makes you want to read on. Why are these girls not normal girls? What are they debuting at? Why are there only six? All these questions you want answered and you just want to know more. It's captivating.

"Why did beauty create The Belles?"
"At the beginning of the world, the God of Sky fell in love with the Goddess of Beauty, which was easy to do. To call her beautiful would be too small a word."

The Belles has me hooked so far. I am so absorbed into this unique world that I just want to carry on reading and not stop. It's certainly worth all the hype it's been getting recently.

Leave links to your Book Beginnings and Friday 56 below and I'll check them all out.

  5. That definitely lulls you in! At first I was thinking okay sounds normal if a bit extravagant but when I got to the teacup elephant I think I figured out this was very different!
