Book Beginnings/Friday 56 #6

Book Beginnings is hosted by Rose City ReaderShe invites you to share the first sentence or so of your current read and share your thoughts about the sentence, initial impressions of the book and anything else it inspires.

Friday 56 is hosted by Fredas VoiceThis is where you grab the book you are reading, turn to page 56 (or 56% on your ereader) and post a few sentences.

I am sorry I haven't participated in this for a few weeks - life got on top of me and because of that my mental state hasn't been the best. I am on the mend now though and regular posting is resuming.

I am currently reading A Thousand Perfect Notes by C.G. Drews

What he wants most in the world is to cut off his own hands.

I am literally just going to share that because WOW isn't it powerful? When I first read that opening line it literally blew me away. Just from that opening you can tell that this is going to be a very emotional read and you just want to know more.

"Something eating your brain?"
Only a few things. Small things. He could be shipped off to Germany in a few weeks to live with an uncle who's possibly worse than his mother. Or he could be strangled by the Maestro if he messes up. He could lose Joey. He could lose -

I'm not very far into A Thousand Perfect Notes but I have already found myself becoming an emotional wreck. It really gets into the gritty side of a really important topic (that I won't mention because of spoilers) and I can't wait to read more.

  2. Intriguing. This book is new to me. This week I have the latest in the Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes historical mystery series - Island of the Mad by Laurie R. King. Happy reading!
