It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #14

Hosted by The Book DateIt's Monday! What Are You Reading? Is a weekly meme where you share what you have recently read, what you are currently reading and what is up next on your TBR list.

I am so so sorry for being absent last week. It was funny old week last week and I literally didn't have time to think let alone blog. I am back now though and looking forward to sharing my reads from the last two weeks.

Read Last Week

Having read a lot of YA Fantasy recently it felt good to get back into Contemporary YA. Both of the above books have interesting takes on grief and loss and both made me cry.

Sunflowers in February was an emotional read and a really interesting take on what it's like to lose someone so young. However, I did find the plot somewhat predictable and I found it difficult to connect with the MC Lily. But, I adored the writing style and the fact the author took risks with a pretty sensitive topic.

The List of Real Things despite being marketed for young teens was a real heart wrenching read that had me reaching for the tissues once or twice. It was a quick read at only 200 pages but the magic realism kept me reading. I think people of all ages could take something away from this book.

Currently Reading

Yep, I'm back on the YA Fantasy again. Catching Stars seems like it's going to be one hell of a book. I haven't read many books featuring Witches so I'm looking forward to seeing how this one develops.

Up Next

The Astonishing Colour of After is a book I'm reviewing for my local library (I am now a volunteer YA reviewer for them) and I am really looking forward to this one! It sounds right up my street and I can't wait to share my views.

  3. When I read YA, I tend to stick to fantasy and mystery but every once in a while sprinkle in a contemporary. I'm so out of the intended age range for contemporaries! Come see my week here. Happy reading!
