My Bookshelf

As a big reader it obvious that I am going to have a bookshelf - a place to store all my amazing books that I accumulate. Sometimes it overflows causing me to rearrange it but today I thought I would go through some of the things I do to help organise my shelves and I'll also talk about my favourite books on each shelf. I am a very organised person so I hope this helps someone less organised to maybe sort their bookshelf out.

Okay, so my bookshelf isn't as big as some but I'm okay with that. As I also read e-books I don't need a big shelf. It's the perfect size for what I need and I do love it. I do like to place other items on the shelves such as POP figures, statues, memorabilia etc just to make it more personal to me.

My current organisation involves putting the books in alphabetical order by the authors last name. I did try sorting them out by title and authors first name but they didn't work as well. With sorting them out by title I found that some books that were part of a series were separated and I, personally couldn't deal with that. Also, the authors first name system I felt really uncomfortable with. After working in a book shop where the books were all ordered by last name, I got used to it and this is probably where this system came in.

Favourite books on this shelf:

- A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen
- Ink by Alice Broadway
- Always with Love by Giovanna Fletcher

Why do I need a system? I hear you ask. Well as I said at the start of this post I am a very organised person and I can't stand to see anything unorganised or messy. When I see an unorganised book shelf I start to feel all funny. Does anyone else feel that way?

I have seen many pictures of bookshelves and I love the ones that are colour ordered. That is something I would consider as it just looks beautiful. Maybe I'll do that when I next organise my shelf.

Favourite Books on first shelf

- Orangeboy by Patrice Lawrence
- All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Favourite Books on second shelf

- Wonder by RJ Palcio
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
- If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo

I also like to arrange by books in Paperback and Hardback. They look nicer sorted that way and it's a lot easier for me to find what version of a book I am looking for. You may also notice that I have all my Harry Potter books in their own space. It's because it's my favourite series of all time and very special to me.

Favourite Books on first shelf

- On The Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher
- Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

Favourite Books on second shelf

- Harry Potter series by JK Rowling

So there we go. That's my bookshelf and I love it. Obviously it will go through some changes but at the moment I am happy with how it is.

My top tips for anyone wanting to organise their bookshelf would be:

- Find a system that works for you
- Don't be afraid to experiment
- What works for others may not work for you
- Don't be afraid to make changes
- Love your books and your shelf
