Mariko has always known that being a woman means she's not in control of her own fate. But Mariko is the daughter of a prominent samurai and a cunning alchemist in her own right, and she refuses to be ignored. When she is ambushed by a group of bandits known as the Black Clan enroute to a political marriage to Minamoto Raiden - the emperor's son - Mariko realises she has two choices: she can wait to be rescued... or she can take matters into her own hands, hunt down the clan and find the person who wants her dead.
Disguising herself as a peasant boy, Mariko infiltrates the Black Clan's hideout and befriends their leader, the rebel ronin Ranmaru, and his second-in-command, Okami. Ranmaru and Okami warm to Mariko, impressed by her intellect and ingenuity. But as Mariko gets closer to the Black Clan, she uncovers a dark history of secrets that will force her to question everything she's ever known.

The Finding of Martha Lost by Caroline Wallace

Released 18th May 2017
320 Pages
E-Book

Thank you to the publisher for sending me this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Martha is lost.

She’s been lost since she was a baby, abandoned in a suitcase on the train from Paris. Ever since, she’s waited in station lost property for someone to claim her. It’s been sixteen years, but she’s still hopeful.
In the meantime, there are mysteries to solve: secret tunnels under the station, a suitcase that may have belonged to the Beatles, the roman soldier who appears at the same time every day with his packed lunch. Not to mention the stuffed monkey that someone keeps misplacing.
But there is one mystery Martha cannot solve. And now the authorities have found out about the girl in lost property. Time is running out - if Martha can’t discover who she really is, she will lose everything…

Review: All About Mia by Lisa Williamson

All About Mia by Lisa Williamson
Published by David Fickling Books
Released 2nd February 2017
336 Pages
Hardback

One family, three sisters.
Grace, the oldest: straight-A student.
Audrey, the youngest: future Olympic swimming champion.
And Mia, the mess in the middle.

Mia is wild and daring, great with hair and selfies, and the undisputed leader of her friends – not attributes appreciated by her parents or teachers.
When Grace makes a shock announcement, Mia hopes that her now-not-so-perfect sister will get into the trouble she deserves.
But instead, it is Mia whose life spirals out of control – boozing, boys and bad behaviour – and she starts to realise that her attempts to make it All About Mia might put at risk the very things she loves the most.

I am back!

Hello!

First of all I'd like to apologise for the sudden quietness of Amy's Bookish Life. The past few months have been crazy and I'm been so busy. I've had a lot of university work to get through and there have been a few personal problems in my life which I don't really want to go into.

However, university is basically over. I only have a few assignments to hand in and my final project. Personal problems have also sorted themselves out. So, I have decided that now is the right time to relaunch Amy's Bookish Life. I have missed doing this a lot. Expect updated content almost daily and a lot of bookish related posts.

I am excited to get back into this and I hope to restablish my connections and readership.
